Love Into Action support families affected by disability through two projects which share several important things in common:
- Families are supported whatever their circumstances. Our only requirement is that families allow our team to come alongside of them.
- The Love Into Action team regularly visit the families we support as the main way of helping families.
- We do not tell families what to do, nor come with specialists to train or teach families. Through the times we spend together our families are able to see what is possible with their disabled relative as we show in practice, in the family home, with their own children, with the wider family included.
- There is no time limit to how long we support a family, no upper age limit, and no charges to the families. In this way we are able to help the families that need it, for as long as they need it.
Our two distinct projects are:
·Beit Yusef - Community Support & Respite Care (Short Break Centre) for children and adults with severe and profound cognitive disabilities. In this project we support families who have access to no other support in their community because of the severity of the disability of their child. This work takes place throughout the Palestinian areas of the West Bank where there is no state funded support services for people with disabilities.
·The Olive Wood Project - The Specialist Workshop for adults with special needs developing life skills and social inclusion through crafting handmade olive wood gifts and lots of fun. This work is based at our centre in the Shepherds Fields of Bethlehem with adults from the local community with moderate cognitive disabilities such as Down Syndrome.
